Transfers and Repatriation

exp date isn't null, but text field is

As a designated local neonatal unit, we are able to provide neonatal care for babies above 28 weeks. If your baby is born below this gestation or they have any issues requiring specialist treatment then we may move your baby after birth to another neonatal unit for ongoing care. We aim for this to be at either the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow or the Princess Royal Maternity (see dedicated areas of this website for more information on these units) however we cannot guarantee this.

Once your baby no longer needs specialist level care, they will be repatriated back to their local neonatal unit for ongoing care.

A senior member of the neonatal team will discuss this with you if this is required at any point during your babies stay on our unit.

Occasionally, all of the neonatal cots in our neonatal unit are occupied with current patients and we may temporarily not be able to accept new admissions. In these cases, despite being booked to deliver at RAH, you and/or your baby may be transferred to the closest maternity unit with neonatal cot availability, appropriate to your baby’s anticipated needs. We aim to move baby’s closer to home again as soon as possible.
