Your Health Visitor might visit you when your child is between 4 and 5 years old. You can find out more on Happy Healthy Tots.

 

Immunisations

Your child will be due their preschool vaccinations at 3 years and 4 months. Remember to take your red book with you to the appointment.

Your child will receive the following vaccine: 

  1. The Four-in-One vaccine helps protect against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio.

The immunisation pages of NHS Inform includes information on when and why you should immunise your child, and what to expect after immunisation.

Public Health Scotland have produced a Protect your child against serious diseases guide. This booklet is provided by your Health Visitor within the first two weeks of your baby being born and will help you over the next five years of your child’s own immunisation journey. This is also available in other languages.

NHS Scotland recommends all eligible children should get the flu vaccine between September and December to help protect them from influenza (flu). You can find out more about the child flu vaccine on NHS Inform.

 

Pre-School Vision Screening

Before your child starts school, they’ll be offered an eye test as part of the See4School programme. This is known as pre-school orthoptic vision screening. You can find out more about pre-school vision screening on NHS Inform.
