What we do

We provide direct care and help other teams in the hospital to look after children with complex infection, advise on choice and duration of antibiotic and antiviral treatments. We look after children with feverish illnesses who have acquired infection overseas.

We look after children with primary immunodeficiency syndromes (problems with the immune system).

We also look after children with blood borne viruses (hepatitis B, C and HIV) and tuberculosis.

We work together with the infection prevention and control team to minimise the risk of spread of infectious diseases within the hospital, including SARS-CoV-2.

Who we are

Our team is made up of two full-time consultants in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Allergy, two consultants in General Paediatrics and Paediatric infectious Diseases. Paediatric trainees in the West of Scotland join the team for six-month rotations. We have one specialist nurse in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology, a consultant pharmacist specialising in blood borne viruses and a specialist pharmacist who specialises in antimicrobial management. We also have a treasured secretary, who manages the team’s administration.

Being referred to the Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology team

Patients are referred via healthcare professionals within the hospital or their GP.

We are unable to accept direct referrals from patients and their families.
